Any previous members of RASP on here?

Postby RBonney on Mon Nov 16, 2009 5:29 pm

To residents of Killamarsh,

I'm from the University of Manchester and am currently working to produce my thesis on grassroots activism in Killamarsh.

After researching all the events surrounding SARP pollution and the astouding response of the community in the area, I am very interested to try and get in touch with anyone who was involved in RASP.

Your time would be much appreciated and would greatly aid my research,

If anyone with previous RASP involvement would like to aid my research please get in contact via facebook or via my university email adress (below)

A bit off topic but, there is a public meeting on Saturday 28th November at Eckington Civic Centre at 9.30 to discuss the building of a new waste incinerater in Dronfield.
I will be attending to voice my opinions !!

It would be a shame for this thing to be built after RASP's successfull campaign to rid Killamarsh of our incinerator, only for the toxic crap to move a few miles away.

I was one of the mad tanker stoppers with BW and served for a short time as secretary. Main man was John Moran (legend) but he is no longer in area, perhaps someone knows how to get in touch with him. :D

sorry to hear about the other incinerator news! will rasp be making a comeback?

i have spoken to a couple of people involved, would just be great if i could get in touch with a couple more of you who were involved with RASP and had some experiences of SARP pollution

would anyone fancy doing a short interview for my research (could just conduct it over email), would be very greatful

Yes there is no problem with a e mail interview. Been to the meeting this morning and apparently they people who are putting the information together to raise public concern have been told to keep matters low key, an option that we raspers found to be pointless, the only way they took notice was by bombarding them with a public presence, shifts of protesters outside the sarp gates, stopping tankers, organised marches and protests. Letters galore were written but I feel the main action came about because of protest, the public presence, the spreading of their deeds via newspaper and tv. Good luck to the people highlighting the new threat but the battle is long and hard and they will need to get the message out to as many people as possible. Of note this morning was the fact that another incinerator is near to being approved at Barrow Hill.
